Waterproofing is an important part of your horse blanket. Waterproofing not only keeps your horse from getting wet, but it extends the life of your blanket. It’s like a protective coating on your blanket to keep it from deteriorating and helps it to resist stains.
The waterproofing that I use is call “Rug Proof” from Nikwax. The product is imported from England where they called horse blankets “Rugs”, hence the name “Rug Proof”. This is a breathable waterproofing that is added in the washing machine. There is no distinguishable odor and it is non flammable.
